Project: Loft Extension and Conversion including a Guest bedroom,
a Child’s bedroom, Bathroom, Landings & Stairwell
Guest Bedroom Design Brief
A calm, light, contemporary bedroom which may, in the short term, be for an au pair and in the long term a welcoming guest room for family and friends.
Interior Design Consultation : This project is a perfect example to illustrate how crucial the design consultation is to the success and delivery of a project. I travelled to London to meet my clients for a two hour in-person consultation, devoted to getting to know them and their project. The rest of the design process and took place remotely.
Two hours gave the clients enough time to relax into it and discuss their plans for a loft extension and conversion which would include a guest bedroom, child’s bedroom and bathroom. Working from the architect’s drawings we discussed each loft room in detail which I have since designed for them.
The consultation is such a great opportunity to ask a lot of questions and discuss ideas. It’s during these conversations that the project begins to come to life for the clients, especially on projects where the rooms don’t yet exist.
A consultation allows me to understand how my clients live and want to live in their home and in two hours I learnt enough about the family to come away and design three new rooms in their home, all of which they loved, signed off and have now been completed.
Bathroom Design brief
Design a beautiful sanctuary bathroom that will mostly be used by my clients and their guests. A calm retreat away from the rest of the house and a plastic toy free zone.
The design centred on their wish for a light filled bathroom and drew on their love of blues and greens, creating a connection with the colour palette throughout their home.
Child’s Bedroom Design Brief
A calming bedroom for a 4 year old and a future play space for her and her sister. A calming, light, inspiring room with the opportunity for adventure and fun in a woodland themed den space.
Wallpaper chosen for the woodland themed den space under the eaves complete with soft lighting, torches, peep holes and a rabbit or two.
Include a variety of child friendly accessible storage for clothes, toys, books and design part of the eaves space for family storage.
Client Testimonial
“Rebecca worked extremely hard to design our loft conversion project earlier this year, which included a child's bedroom, guest room and bathroom.
Rebecca visited our home for a consultation to get an idea of our style, before developing a range of options for each room for us to select from.
We loved all of Rebecca's designs and felt she had understood our vision for the spaces really well. Her ideas for our eldest daughter's bedroom were particularly inspired and original. Sadly, we haven't yet been able to see the designs come to life, due to a planning issue (nothing to do with Rebecca's work) but we are sure it will be worth the wait.
We would absolutely recommend her.”
